What ever happened to the Chevy ZR2 Concept truck? Back in 2010 after the debut of the incredibly popular Ford Raptor, Chevy opened the floodgates to the reality of a direct competitor to the Raptor dubbed the ZR2; but where did it go? We can go tom Ford and buy a Raptor but in order to experience the same from Chevy we are forced to modify and accessorize a current model Silverado 2500. So that is what this site is about to do, we will build our very own ZR2 and we will hold a contest to name it in the fall.
Our ZR2 will take the best of Chevy and add to it some of the fantastic aftermarket parts readily available for your personal trucks and see if we can construct something to destroy the Ford Raptor but do so without sacrificing reliability of breaking the bank while building it.
- Power, we need lots of reliable power so Chevy's idea of the Cadillac Supercharger
6.2 just makes lots of sense. The supercharged 6.2L - 378CI LSA V8 found under the hood of the
Cadillac CTS-V produces a whopping 556-hp @ 6100 and 551 lb-ft of torque @ 3800 RPM's. And as
we all know the supercharged engines produce this power where we need it most, right from idle
through max throttle.
- Superchargers produce low and mid range power while turbo's, needing the exhaust gasses for power, build high rpm power; so supercharger it is because when it comes to horsepower and torque, when I want it, I want it now. Bring on the blowers!
- Chevy Silverado Aftermarket Superchargers for your New Model Chevy Silverado
1500 and 2500 series 4x4's.
- Optionally we could add the Lysholm 2300 twin-screw supercharger to a stock 5.3L V8 and have something that is sweet on fuel yet comparable to the 6.2L found in the Raptor in both HP and torque. The Lysholm 2300 supercharger boosts the 5.3L V8 to 452HP and 444 lb/ft torque compared to the 315 hp and 335 lb.-ft. of torque in stock configuration.
- In comparison, the stock Ford Raptor 6.2L V8 has 411 hp and 434 lb.-ft. of torque.
Gear ratios are another area we'll be addressing in our project ZR2-P. Absolutely no 3.08's will be found anywhere this project truck, 4.56 or 4.88 is more in the works depending upon the lift and final tire sizes we choose.
A bullet proofed 6L80E will keep the ZR2-P in motion with rock solid gearing and clutch improvements to handle the additional HP we plan to be delivering to the wheels.

- Suspension components must also be up to the tasks from the severe off road duties and punishment inflicted upon them.
- The truck would not be complete without a beefy winch bumper and some additional off road lights. Throw in a 10,000 lbs winch and we're talking time for a little punishment and torture testing without any worries of having to walk home.
- The Cure For Night Blindness, HID Kits. After fitting HID's in out 2011 Chevy Silverado 1500 and then again in a 1981 Silverado we would never own another vehicle without them. Read this story and see why.
- Tires are another point where we are pretty open to try something new. It's currently looking like a set of BF Goodrich MT KM2's or possibly the new Mickey Thompson Baja Claw TTC Radials might be in the future.
- Of course we will be doing the LineX spray in bed liner and a little undercover sheet metal work too, but as for now the final product is still to be seen.
Question: How well do you think the new 2012 Chevy Silverado 2500 HD stacks up against the competition from the Ford F-250 and Dodge Ram 2500?
